In 4th grade, children must understand how
to represent the value of the digit in whole numbers through 1,000,000,000 and decimals to the hundredths using expanded notation and
numerals. Fourth grade students interpret
the value of each position as 10 times the position to the right and as one-tenth
the value of the place to its left. They
must also compare and order whole numbers to 1 billion and decimals to the hundredths using symbols (>, <, =) and concrete & visual models. In addition, 4th graders have to be
able to round whole numbers and determine decimals on a number line to the
hundredths place.
